2500 still pictures played at 24 frames per second. Shot with a Canon EOS 600D and animated in Dragonframe. The clay I used is called PLASTILINA. Everything edited in Photoshop CC and Sony Vegas Pro. Sound effects recorded with a Blue Yeti and also taken from freesound.org.

After being betrayed by his peers and lost both his father and his right arm, legendary craftsman "Jingoro Hidari" is on a journey of revenge with his partner "Sleeping Cat" and his mechanical prosthetic arm. Finally, Jingoro faces one of his adversaries "Inumaru" in a fight to the death...

This is a pilot version of the stop-motion samurai film that tells the story of "Jingoro Hidari," a legendary Edo-era craftsman. All the characters are made by wood and animated frame by frame, just like how Jingoro's wooden sculptures came to life in his many anecdotes. We hope you enjoy this film, which mixes dynamic actions as seen in Japanimation, and the rich analog expressions of stop-motion animation.

Our intention is to use this pilot film as a starting point to create a full length feature film. We have started activities to raise the necessary partners and funding to achieve this goal.

この作品は、江戸時代に存在したとされる伝説の名工「左甚五郎」の物語を描いた
ストップモーション時代劇のパイロット・フィルムです。
左甚五郎にまつわる様々な逸話と同じように
「木彫りの人形にコマ撮りで命を吹き込む」ことで映像化しています。
ジャパニメーションのようなダイナミックなアクションと、
ストップモーションのアナログな世界観を大胆にミックスした、
かつて観たことのないような映像をお楽しみください。

このパイロットフィルムを出発点に、最終的には長編映画を完成させたいと考えています。

Animator: I aimed for a comical performance by moving the limbs of the white figure (spirit). On the other hand, the sad and crying performance of the yellow figure emphasized the contrast between the two by aiming for delicate movements such as grasping the fingertips and swaying the shoulders. 92 hours of stop motion recording. The number of shots is 733.
Editor: This time, I cut out a white figure (spirit) using AfterEffects' "Roto Brush" function. It was my first attempt, so it took time, but I think I was able to cut it out neatly.

In this video, I show you how I learned to animate from no experience. Using simple, practical, and repeatable techniques, I was able to achieve a level of animation I only dreamed of. You can follow the exact same steps as I did to achieve similar or even better results. 💪🏼

In my last video, I learned how to draw in 7 days with no experience. Taking my drawing skills I just learned, I applied it to animation to create what you are seeing today. I couldn't even believe that I was able to reach a good level of animation in such a short period of time.

This is my very first time doing animation. If you have any tips that you would like to share, post it in the comments! It won't only be helpful for me, but for anyone else trying to improve their animation skills.

What gear or software you need for animation is going to depend on what you want to create. some apps are great for beginners like Flippa Clip and other animation programs are geared more toward professionals and can cost a lot more. Same with much of the hardware out there.

Welcome to Animation for Anyone. In this first class, we dive headfirst into six of the big ideas behind animation and how to start thinking about them together.

A note on software:
We don't touch on software in this class because I believe there are already lots of great tutorials out there but if you're interested in low cost options to get started there are a few that come to mind- Blender is a free 3D package and includes a "Grease Pencil" mode if you're interested in learning 2D animation. Procreate on IOS is inexpensive and has new animation features (simply turn on Animation Assist in the canvas menu). Adobe Creative Cloud suite is certainly not "low cost" but some of you may have access to it for other uses. If that is the case Photoshop and Animate CC both offer powerful animation tools and will be included in your Creative Cloud Membership.
